Vidya Balan started her career with Ekta Kapoor’s comedy serial, “Hum Paanch” in 1995. She made her film debut in the Bengali film Bholo Theko in 2003. Her first Hindi film was Parineeti. She won the Anandalok Puraskar Best Actress award for Bengali film Bhalo Theko. Vidya Balan has been trolled then and now on social media.
Once, she said, “My weight has become a national issue”. She said she was always a fat girl with hormonal issues. Therefore fluctuating weight remained a concern for her. Despite being trolled for body-shaming that creates self-doubt, she was often in a battle with her body as she was angry and hated it.
She then realized that there is no point in changing yourself to suit someone’s ideals. She has inspired many to be in their own skin. She said that body-shaming make people’s life miserable. Once in an interview, she spoke about the challenges she had to face with weight problems over the years.
Vidya said this thing amazes me a lot that every time you enter a place, people have only one conversation, “Oh! You have lost weight”, and “You have put in weight”. It makes me annoyed and I don’t like these conversations.

When asked about why being devastated and broken was not shown on camera, she replied, “I think the camera is my safe place and I trust the camera more than anything else. When I am facing the camera, nothing else matters. I am happy being in front of the camera, my closest confidant”. She gained 12 kg for The Dirty Picture.
It was the boldest character she ever played in her career. She gained weight to do justice to the picture. She has done a variety of roles in her film career, a single mother in Hey Baby, a psychological patient in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, romantic in Kismat connection.
Though she gained weight in The Dirty Picture, she got the National award for best actress. She has been trolled many times in the past due to her weight, and body-shaming, and she slammed those who trolled her.
