As he prepares for the release of Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor will take on an entirely new persona. Yash Raj Films has been releasing videos of the actor talking about his acting journey in the days running up to the film’s premiere. Ranbir talked about his desire to follow in the footsteps of Bollywood icons Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the most recent video.
The video begins with Ranbir Kapoor channelling his inner Amitabh Bachchan. After that, he went on to say, “Amitabh Bachchan was my idol growing up. I always wanted to be Shah Rukh Khan when I grew up! Finally, I was forced to play Ranbir Kapoor.
He said that while he admired Hindi film heroes, he didn’t end up taking on the roles they are best known for because of this. Then he added, The heroes of Hindi films had become my role models by the time I was an adult.
Everything I did, from my appearance to my speech, was influenced by my heroes in a subliminal way. Interestingly, though, when I became a professional actor, I found that I was not casting myself in the films that my heroes were. So, even though I’ve fulfilled my acting ambitions, when I go back to the 12-year-old Ranbir who was enamoured with Hindi film heroes, I can’t help but feel that he still has a long way to go.
As a dacoit fighter, Ranbir Kapoor will appear in Shamshera, his upcoming flick. Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt star in the Karan Malhotra-directed film. Besides Shamshera, Ranbir will star in Brahmastra with Alia Bhatt, his actress-wife.
Meanwhile Shamshera star Ranbir Kapoor has come up with an inventive marketing strategy. YRF produced a three-episode series called ‘RK Tapes’ starring the actor.
The actor talks about his heroes in the second video, which was posted on Friday after the previous one, in which he discusses how acting is in his blood. Also, Ranbir talked on how Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan had a subliminal effect on his personality.
To begin, we see Ranbir sitting in a darkened theatre, just like the iconic actor did back in the 1970s. His voice mimics Big B’s speech from Deewar: Tumlog mujhe dhund ho aur Main tumhara Yahi Intezaar Kar Raha Ho he utters. In Hindi, the actor explains how he aspired to be Amitabh Bachchan. In his youth, Shah Rukh Khan was his dream job. I became Ranbir Kapoor, he adds.
The actor goes on to say that these Hindi film actors had become his real-life heroes by the time he grew up, as well. “My heroes influenced everything I did, from the way I dressed to the way I spoke. Interestingly, though, when I became a professional actor, I found that I was not casting myself in the films that my heroes were. As a result, even though I’ve fulfilled my acting ambitions, I can’t help but think of the 12-year-old Ranbir who was enamoured with Hindi cinema.
There is a possibility that this is why Ranbir Kapoor’s films have not received the attention they deserve, according to the actor. His father Rishi Kapoor advised him that while he was making good films, it would not make him a national star. In the end, my films were a success, and the audience seemed to enjoy them. “However, now I understand what he was trying to say,” RK continues.
Ranbir says he still sees his favourite stars from a low angle as he watches video clips of Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan playing on the 70mm screen. In my mind, they are not equals.” Both on and off film, they are always larger than life. His life would be complete if I could be even a tenth of the heroes they are, he grins.
Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor also star in Shamshera, which is planned for release on July 22. The film Brahmastra will be released on September 9th as well.
Ranbir is about to become a father for the first time, together with his wife Alia Bhatt. The couple revealed their pregnancy earlier this week by posting a photo from the hospital.
